Tumeric

My two 1kg packs arrived packed in very good quality plastic bags. Two labels on the packets intrigue me (and you don't see this on the packets of spices that Woolworths, Coles etc.sell); the first label is: "Best kept refrigerated. Best stored at or below 5 Deg C". The second label is: "May contain soy, cereals containing gluten, Milk, Sulphites, Tree nuts, other tree nuts, peanuts, sesame, gluten, egg" ??? Is this pure tumeric ?? (Tastes like tumeric though)

This product is great.. would like to have the option of the grade (2.5 or 4) as I use it for my pets and the lower grade is more beneficial for them..

Pretty good

I tested this Indian tumeric and it seems to be very low in contamination. I used the glass of water test, and most passed straight to the bottom of the glass. As some background, in India, the ground has been so severely contaminated with lead, it's classified as a public health crisis (via Pure Earth). But there's also intentional adulteration with chalk or starches, according to Vasant Masala. These fillers increase the amount unscrupulous purveyors can sell and because these pale imposters can be easily identified, they're then treated with synthetic dyes (Sudan I, Sudan II, Metanil Yellow, and Orange II) and metal/mineral chromates like lead to boost the color.
